1947 - 1949 in what became Israel the Jewish troops uprooted 850,000 – 950,000 Palestinians from their homes, seized approximately 80 percent of Palestinian land, creating a refugee crisis that is still not resolved. Palestinians call this mass eviction the Nakba — Arabic for “catastrophe” —

Palestine is a small region of land—roughly 2,400 square miles—that has played a prominent role in the ancient and modern history of the Middle East. Violent attempts to control land have defined much of the history of Palestine, making it the site of constant political conflict. Arab people who call this territory home are known as Palestinians, and the people of Palestine have a strong desire to create a free and independent state in a contested region of the world that’s considered sacred by many groups.
The Palestinian people are known for their hospitality, fascinating cultural traditions, and warm welcoming of visitors.
The majority of the population is Muslim, although there is also a large population of Christians as well.
The Church of Nativity, which is considered the birthplace of Jesus Christ is regarded as a sacred place by both Christians and Muslims alike. It is also one of the world’s oldest churches!
Christmas is celebrated 3 times each year. The first of which is December 25th, per western tradition, followed by January 6th per Greek Orthodox tradition, and finally on January 18th, as per Armenian tradition.
Ramadan is a holy month in Islam which includes fasting from sunrise to sunset. Because the majority of Palestinians are Muslim, Palestinian businesses adjust accordingly.
Palestine is known for some of the most beautiful wildflowers in the world, popping into the existence mostly in April and May. These include irises, jonquils, wild poppies, and other vibrant species of flowers which paint the colorful hillsides during a short spring season.
There are several species of large wild animals in Palestine as well! These include foxes, mountain gazelles, Nubian Ibex (a desert-dwelling species of goat), wild boar, wolves, jackals, leopards, hyenas, and many types of migratory birds as well!
Timeline spans more than two centuries to explain the dramatic chain of events that led to the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine.
